Future shop
Future Shop, a Canadian electronics retailer established in 1982 by Hassan Khorowshahi, in Vancouver.He was Iran resident, of a Persian-Canadian origin, born in 1940.
In 1981, he moved to Vancouver, holding a degree in economics and law earned in University of Tehran.
In late 1980s, the chain of Future Shop was substantially expanded, proliferating into Western Canada and Ontario.
Later, in the beginning of 1990s, it reached Quebec and Atlantic Canada, with 110 stores operating across all the Canada抯 provinces.
In 2001 the Future Shop was purchased by Best Buy for the amount of CA$500 million.
The original name was not changed and so, Best Buy continued operating Future Shop locations as is.
Similar to Best Buy, Future Shop is built in a similar style of a grand store showcasing a large assortment of products with comfortable road access.
The offered products aim at the pocket and interest of an average consumer.
Also more specialized equipment aiming highly technical users.
For instance, Future Shop stocks a variety of computer systems, and in the past sold computer motherboards and processors.
They are also an authorized Apple dealer.
Future Shop no longer offers motherboards, and CPUs, though some may still be carried in the online store.
These days, Future Shop, sells mid to high level complete computer systems.
The rationale behind is that the average customer is likely to receive a better deal for a full fledged computer rather having it assembled by an independent retailer.
Future Shop in addition operates an online store.
